Ørsted is one of the leading energy groups in Northern Europe. Headquartered in Denmark, we have around 6,700 employees which inludes over 850 in the UK. Ørsted is the global leader in offshore wind and currently has 9 operational offshore wind projects with a further 3 under construction. We have two projects in the Merseyside area – Burbo (operational since 2007) and Burbo Extension (inaugurated in May 2017). Burbo Extension is the first offshore project in the world to use 8MW turbines and at 258MW can generate enough electricity to power over 230,000 homes. The project also supports a local community benefit fund which has made around £225,000 available per year to local community projects. Ørsted are also pioneering a bioenergy project called REnescience in Northwich, Cheshire which will be inaugurated later in 2017. In the UK, we are dedicated to developing, constructing and operating offshore wind farms and we are the third largest industrial and commercial business-to-business gas supplier. We have nine operational offshore wind farms, three in construction, and three in development. We are also building the world's first bio plant called REnescience, a waste-to-energy solution that will provide energy to up to 110,000 UK homes. We have already invested £6 billion to UK wind projects, and plan to double that by 2020. We are committed to innovation, taking a lead in driving down the costs of wind power and developing innovative solutions for energy customers.
