STAFF and students at St Helens College are celebrating after receiving a significant stamp of approval to deliver Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) courses in logistics, starting from January 2016.

The news comes as the College prepares to launch a brand new £3million Logistics Academy in September in partnership with Knowsley Community College, a project approved last month by the Liverpool City Region’s growth deal fund.

Mike Kelly, Head of Business and Professional Studies at University Centre St Helens said: “I am extremely pleased that we have become a Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) approved centre. We are one of only a handful of education institutions in the Northwest offering CILT approved qualifications. The logistics sector is currently suffering a skills shortage so these new courses will also allow us to meet employers’ needs in line with the demands from new Liverpool City Region Superport.”

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK – CILT (UK) – is the independent professional body for individuals associated with logistics, supply chains and all transport throughout their careers.

St Helens College will launch new Logistics qualifications from January 2016. The offer includes short taster courses in warehousing and logistics for those considering a career in this growing industry. Formal qualifications will include level 1 qualifications that are designed to give people an insight into the logistics sector, level 2 and 3 certificates in logistics and transport and a higher level 5 diploma in logistics and transport that will be delivered at University Centre St Helens.

If you are interested in CILT qualifications or a taster session, drop into the Enrolment and Information event on Monday 11th January 2016 from 5.00pm – 7.00pm. Alternatively, contact Tracey Boardman on 0800 99 66 99 or enquiries@sthelens.ac.uk.
