National social enterprise and procurement organisation Fusion21 has made the shortlist in The Merseyside Independent Business Awards 2016.

Announced as a finalist in the ‘Community Organisation of the Year’ category, Fusion21 joins four other businesses nominated for the award – which celebrates the power of community engagement to create change and make lasting improvements to people’s lives.

Ran by Morecrofts Solicitors, the awards recognise a variety of successful independent businesses operating within the Liverpool city region.

Fusion21 has a sustainable business model which complies with the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 and enables social value through the procurement process.

Through a collaborative approach with its membership, Fusion21 has delivered c£125m savings through the procurement process, created over 2500 jobs, and generated around £56m in community impact across the country.

Dave Neilson, Chief Executive at Fusion21, said: “It’s an honour for Fusion21 to be shortlisted in the Community Award category. Since our inception, we’ve remained passionate about creating social impact within the communities of our members – from job creation and tackling unemployment, to reducing reoffending and supporting wider community regeneration.

“As our business goes from strength to strength on a national scale, we remain extremely proud of our Merseyside roots. Fusion21 has retained a solid customer base within the North West, and we regularly meet with Liverpool’s Social Economy Panel – ran by the Social Enterprise Network – to work on new initiatives for the region, whilst developing and sharing innovation in social value policy and practice.”

The Merseyside Independent Business Awards are now in their fourth year. Winners will be announced at a ceremony held within Liverpool’s Titanic Hotel, on Thursday 29th September 2016.
