Wirral-based Tectores have become the second monthly winners of the 2019 Merseyside Innovation Awards (MIA). Their innovative PelliTec blister prevention pad, which sticks to footwear not the skin, looks to solve a perennial problem; they have turned their focus to preventing blisters rather than treating them.

The MIA’s aim to help companies transform their ideas into successful businesses, contributing towards Merseyside’s economic development. Since 1996, the awards celebrate and encourages innovative companies and individuals in Merseyside and this month’s winners Tectores are looking to capitalise on this win by launching their product in May 2019, initially to healthcare professionals followed by a consumer roll out later in 2019.

Tectores’ inventive blister prevention pad consists of a unique six-layer design, reducing the friction which causes blisters and accelerating the healing of existing ones. The company have recently received a patent to extend their range of footcare products into insoles and they hope to revolutionise the prevention and treatment of foot blisters whilst contributing economically to the Merseyside area.

Tectores co-founders, Lenny Waters and Karl Ormond, said: “Being named as monthly winner is a wonderful achievement for us, acknowledging our innovative product, PelliTec. This is set to make a meaningful impact to sportspeople, walkers and the military as well as, in the longer term, diabetics for whom blisters can lead to serious complications.”

Brian McCann, MIA Chairman, added: “Tectores have demonstrated the best of Merseyside entrepreneurs, they spotted a gap in the market and directly addressed the problem. The exciting news for the region is that they’re looking to work alongside Merseyside businesses for distribution and also grow their business in the region.”

Brian added, “We wish them the best for the future and expect they will achieve their goal of revolutionising the footcare industry.”

MIA is driven by a group of locally-based sponsor organisations including, dewinter, Mitchell Charlesworth, Unilever, Liverpool City Region LEP, Natwest, Insider Media, Village Software, WP Thompson, O’Connors, RTC North and BBC Radio Merseyside.
