New hotel figures just released show how occupancy across the Liverpool City Region is continuing to grow year on year.

Last year saw an overall increase of 2.4% to 71% from 2012, with the total number of rooms sold over 2.6m. These figures are helped with the addition of eight new hotel openings during 2013.

During 2013 the average weekend occupancy across the city region stood at 84%, and the weekday occupancy rose to 70%. The total number of rooms sold during this time increased by approximately 180,000 compared to 2012.

These are just some of the figures to come out of the latest edition of the Digest of Tourism Statistics, produced by the research team at the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, who collate a wide range of key tourism statistics.

Under the re-branded banner of the North West Research (formerly England’s North West Research Service), the team conducts commercial research in a range of different sectors across the North West, particularly in the tourism and event industry.

Other key facts from the 2013 digest include:

there were 57m visitors to the Liverpool City Region
the visitor economy was worth £3.4bn, with 45,900 jobs supported
Liverpool is now placed 5th of all UK towns or cities visited by overseas visitors
Liverpool One, recorded a footfall of over 26m people in 2013 – this is 5% up on 2012
North West Research Manager, Anna Biagetti, said: “NW Research is a repository of useful information about the City Region Visitor Economy collated over many years from visitor surveys commissioned by ourselves and other key stakeholders.

“We have also set up a virtual research network where all those with an interest in this intelligence can share information. This in-depth understanding of visitor characteristics, behaviour and opinions helps us plan for the future and inform our City Region marketing campaigns”.
