Growth Strategy

The Liverpool City Region Growth Strategy: Building our Future, acts as the City Region’s Strategic Economic Plan, outlining our ambitions for economic growth over the next 25 years. Our focus is economic growth that will ensure all our residents have the opportunity for a good quality of life for themselves as well future generations.

Our vision is the build on our core strengths and capacity for innovation to create a truly global and competitive City Region at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.

Proposed interventions will lead to new jobs, new opportunities and improved prosperity, they are reflected in the following ambitions:

  • The creation of over 100,000 additional jobs by 2040
  • A net increase of 20,000 businesses over the next 25 years
  • An additional 50,000 people coming to live in the City Region by 2040
  • Nearly doubling the size of the Economy to £50billion by 2040
     

The Growth Strategy provides a strategy approach to how growth will be driven forward across the City Region via three pillars of Productivity, People and Place, and building on the City Region’s unique strengths and assets.

Productivity

  • Maximise the potential of our sector strengths and related assets
  • Focus on starting and growing more successful businesses by promoting innovation and entrepreneurial activity

People

  • Ensuring residents and workers are equipped with the right skills
  • Attracting new talent for sustainable growth through a comprehensive business-led skills strategy for the City Region

Place

  • Improve our transport, energy and digital infrastructures
  • Protect and enhance our cultural and environmental assets
  • Improve quality of life for residents
  • Attract and retain investors, skilled workers and visitors who contribute to growth
