The region hosts one of the largest biopharmaceutical manufacturing clusters in Europe with major companies such as Astra Zeneca, Seqirus, Elanco and Allergan, and a rapidly expanding R&D/Innovation SME community. The region provides a range of incubation and other facilities for SMEs and large companies. Healthcare sector employs over 100,000 people, with Liverpool being home to more specialist hospitals and health centres than any other UK city outside London. Research and innovation is central to NHS and social care activities locally, with world leading centres of excellence in areas including children’s health, cardiology, oncology and neurology.
