Liverpool John Lennon Airport

LJLA is one of the UK’s longest established operational airports having been officially opened on 1st July 1933. Today, LJLA is one of the UK’s top 10 busiest airports. It is 80% owned by majority shareholder The Peel Group who first became involved in 1997 and who now work in partnership with Liverpool City Council who acquired a 20% stake in 2016.

The Airport has been at the forefront of low cost air travel since the mid 1990’s, when this growth sector of the airline industry started to develop.
Significant investments in the past 15 years include £130 million in a range of infrastructure works including a new and subsequently expanded terminal building, air traffic control centre, hangars, apron extensions, runway refurbishing and upgrading, multi-storey car park and on site hotel.

Economic Impact
LJLA is a significant driver of prosperity in the City Region and the North West as a whole. LJLA:
• Supports 5’600 jobs on site at the airport
• Supports 6’300 jobs in the Liverpool City Region
• Helps to generate a total economic impact estimated to be around £440 million in GVA .
• Generates the greatest percentage of overseas visitors of any airport in the North of England
• Is a catalyst for economic growth in the South Liverpool area
