Innovation Agency Chief Executive Dr Liz Mear has been appointed as non executive director of Health Education England (HEE), the body responsible for NHS staffing, training and development.

She is one of five new non executive directors at HEE, alongside Professor Andrew George, Professor Soraya Dhillon, Andrew Foster and Professor John Latham.

Liz said: “The most important asset of the NHS is its people and I am delighted to be able to play a part in influencing the direction and future strategy of Health Education England.

“Our work in the Academic Health Science Networks is about speeding up the adoption of innovations in the NHS and I will be particularly keen to help prepare our workforce for new ways of working, for instance with digital technologies and artificial intelligence.”

Recently Liz took on another additional leadership role, on the main board of Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and she believes both roles will support her aim to promote longer, healthier lives.

“Equipping NHS staff with the skills they need to adapt to transformation; and supporting collaborations with businesses is all part of building local economies, which leads to healthier, longer lives.”

Liz joined the Liverpool City Region LEP Board as champion of the health and life sciences sector.
